Introducing Dr. Mona Ghanbari

Meet Dr Mona Ghanbari

Hello! سلام ! Dorood! Kia ora! Talofa! Nǐ hǎo! Namaste! Konnichiwa!

I completed my PhD in Cognitive Psychology at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand, focusing on neuroassessment and mindfulness. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive experience in both private and public sectors, dedicating much of my career to working with children, adolescents (including at-risk youth), and young adults. I’ve also practised as a qualified psychologist overseas.

My expertise lies in the psychological assessment and treatment of a diverse range of challenges faced by children, youth, and young adults. These challenges include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Trauma, Emotional Dysregulation, Depression, and Anxiety Disorder. I’ve previously served as an acute intervention provider for the New Zealand Ministry of Education (MoE), working with clients dealing with behavioural and socio-emotional challenges, as well as various mental health disorders.

In therapy, I adopt a client-centred approach, drawing on evidence-based interventions tailored to each individual’s needs. These interventions include Mindfulness Practice, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My clientele represents diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, including Middle Eastern, Asian, Pākehā, Māori, and Pacific clients, along with their whānau/family. Additionally, I hold the distinction of being the first registered psychologist in New Zealand who is fluent in speaking Persian/Farsi.

I find the field of psychology fascinating due to its nuanced nature—there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Different explanations and approaches to understanding human behaviour exist, influenced by various individual and societal factors.
