Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD is a behavioural disorder that affects your focus and attention, as well as your ability to stick to a routine and complete tasks. ADHD impacts school, work, social interactions, and personal relationships. Because ADHD can lower your quality of life, it’s important to seek mental health care if ADHD symptoms are present.

How do I know if I have ADHD?

ADHD leads to a wide variety of signs, symptoms, and behaviours that vary from minor and occasional to everyday occurrences. If you have ADHD, you may experience:

  • Talking nonstop
  • Difficulty paying attention
  • Being unable to stick to a schedule
  • Being forgetful and not following through
  • Making decisions without considering risk
  • Being unable to hold still or frequently fidgeting
  • Losing essential items regularly, such as car keys
  • Failing to follow instructions or finish tasks at work
  • Having problems staying organized or completing tasks in sequence

If you observe any of these issues related to ADHD, Dr Mona can assist in a thorough exploration of your experiences and assess them against the established diagnostic criteria for ADHD. Subsequent to the assessment, we will meticulously review the gathered data to ascertain whether your presentation aligns with the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis.

Is there an effective treatment for ADHD?

Yes. You certainly don’t have to learn to manage ADHD on your own. Dr Mona will talk with you to better understand your symptoms and how ADHD affects your life. Depending on your needs, treating ADHD may also include a combination of any of the following:

  • Learning to break down large tasks into smaller tasks
  • Meditation and stress-management techniques
  • Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Psychotherapy (talk therapy)
  • Making a schedule
  • Creating a structure and routine
